In this course, learners will examine the theories, models and practices associated with strategic leadership and apply their learning to their own practice. Develops key skills in financial and managerial accounting that are required by twenty first century leaders to make an active contribution to the management of scarce resources. Key topics will include the development of financial reporting and performance measures, cost behaviour & break- even analysis, pricing, budgeting, the use of incremental analysis in decision making and the balanced score card. Builds on students’ work from prior courses to examine how managers can apply performance and process improvement techniques to enhance the ways in which operations and information systems support the strategy of an organization. Focusing on Lean Management principles (popularized as the “Toyota way”), the course places particular emphasis on a system that employs evidence- based decision making and teamwork to deliver the value that customers desire in both service and product- oriented organizations. Examines contemporary marketing theory and practice, building on what students have studied in prior courses to examine the process of creating value for and capturing value from customers. Adopting a holistic customer- focused orientation, students will integrate and use various strategic tools and analytical frameworks that assist organizations to choose, provide and communicate value in ways that seek to balance economic, social and environmental interests. Analyzes the financial resources required by organizations and the ways in which those requirements can be met. Incorporates current events that are relevant to course concepts. Focuses on the practical problems that shape the macro- environments of business, from both theoretical and applied perspectives. The class will discuss the ways in which organizations deal with the impact of globalization, the shifting landscape in national power and the demands of diverse stakeholders. The course examines how organizations exercise their economic and political powers to shape their macro environments, nationally and internationally, in order to achieve strategic goals. The course addresses selected change frameworks and provides learners with a variety of implementation approaches. The basis of exploration will comprise issues such as resistance to change, organizational culture, human resource management processes, measurement of change progress, ethical considerations and organizational politics. Mentored by consulting professionals and faculty, students will be asked to synthesize and apply . Focus on international management issues, functions, policies, and practices as they pertain to staffing, training and development, talent management, labour relations, compensation, performance management, repatriation and knowledge management, transfer of employment practices across borders, and creating productive work cultures that support an organization’s strategy. Explores the business imperativeness of leading with Emotional Intelligence (EI) as it applies to honing one’s personal style and approach to leadership, developing high performing teams, and positioning organizations for bottom- line success and long term viability. Through assessments and personal coaching sessions, students gain new insights into how they can use the EI competency framework and model to enhance their personal leadership, team capacity, and strategic organizational effectiveness. Focuses on meeting the needs of the consulting client by having learners develop expertise in the . In this course, which meets external education requirements of the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC), learners develop knowledge of management consulting that is needed to qualify for the CMC designation. Prepares students to lead innovative teams by fostering awareness of their own and others’ default tendencies, as innovators, and by fostering the adoption of systemic creative problem- solving approaches. The course draws on Creative Problem Solving and Design Thinking models to provide students with a three- stage process for leading innovation that blends theory and practice. Students will better understand processes of innovation and will apply these processes to complex problems.
